Infrastructure PDF Print E-mail

The governmental support is helping in introducing useful changes in the infrastructure , which will give way to a bright future for the people of the North-East. National Informatics Centre (NIC) is a premier Science and Technology organization of the Government of India in the field of Information Technology (IT) applications. It has been instrumental in steering Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Government departments at Central, State and District levels. It has been working towards bringing wider transparency in government functioning and improvement in decentralized planning and  management.
To facilitate this, NIC has established a nationwide ICT Network (NICNET) with nodes at Central Government Departments, 35 State/Union Territory Secretariats and all District Collectorates.
Given its reach, the Government has designated NICNET as the Government Network. As  NIC was entrusted with the  responsibility of establishing CICs at the Block level, efforts were made to provide state-of-the-art technology for the communication infrastructure as well as computers and peripherals. Each CIC is provided with one Server system, five desktop Client systems, one Laser Printer and one Dot Matrix Printer. These systems are connected on a Local Area Network (LAN). The CICs are also equipped with a Television, which can receive signals broadcast over the CIC network.

The LAN is further connected through broadband VSAT to NICNET and Internet. In essence, each CIC is linked to all Districts, State capitals and Central Government Ministries / Departments across the length and breadth of the country.
Each CIC is manned by two CIC Operators who operate equipment, provide services to visitors and conduct training programmes on computer awareness and IT tools.
The well-equipped infrastructure will contribute immensely in removing the bottlenecks that have been acting as hindrances in the development of this region.
